Robert E. Thomson, Jr., PE

Bob Thomson graduated from Clemson with a BSCE in 1969. He was commissioned a Lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers where he served for two years working at the B. Everett Jordan Dam and Lake Construction Project near Raleigh, North Carolina.

Upon leaving the service, he worked as an engineer on water and sewer projects for three years with W. M. Piatt & Co. Engineers in their Winston Salem, North Carolina, branch office.

In 1975, Bob returned to the Corps of Engineers and worked in the Construction Branch of the Wilmington District where he eventually became its Chief.

In 1982, he became Chief of the Operations Branch, responsible for a staff of 100 who operated and maintained dredges, a marine construction vessel, locks, dams, drawbridges, hydropower plants and associated maintenance facilities.

In 1989, Bob left the Corps of Engineers and became a partner in and manager of a seven-person civil construction firm called M & A Construction Co., Inc. in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The company has grown to 45 people and is now known as Thomson & Co., Inc. Civil Contractors. Thomson does civil construction work for local developers, governments and industry.

Bob has a wife of over 30 years, Mary, who is a CPA practicing in Wilmington. Bob enjoys their Labrador Retriever, coastal fishing and playing bass in a blue grass music band composed of all Civil Engineers.
